Tips for Using miniature Blueprints
A few things to keep in mind when using blueprints:
- Check the Scale
Most dollhouses are built in 1:12, 1:6 or 1:24 scale. Make sure you’re printing at the correct size or adjusting your materials accordingly. You can always use my free scale calculator tool here. - Materials to Use
Many plans are designed for 3mm plywood, MDF, or cardboard. Plywood gives the most stable structure, especially for multi-story houses.
If your plywood gets warped, here’s how you can fix it! - Tools You Might Need
- Craft knife or mini saw
- Wood glue or B6000
- Ruler, clamps, sandpaper
- Optional: laser cutter for SVG files
- Customize As You Go
You can often add walls, windows, or extra details even when using pre-made plans.
Final Thoughts
You don’t need to buy an expensive kit to start building your own miniature house. With free blog tutorials, Pinterest boards, downloadable Etsy plans, and detailed books on all types of dollhouses, there’s no shortage of options.

Hi everyone!
My name is Lizzy, and I am an amateur miniaturist obsessed with everything in the dollhouse and miniature world, ever since I was a teenager.
So far, I have created 2 dollhouse projects, a backyard shed and a miniature treehouse, tons of DIY dollhouse kits, and “hacked” some.
I also created a fairy garden, and lots of small and simple miniature projects on my YouTube channel. (mostly made from trash or everyday items).
I love to write as well about all things happening in the miniature world, hence the reason why I created this blog!
I wish you happy reading and crafting!
