The Best Mini Table Saw For Miniature And Dollhouse Makers: My Hands-On Review

When I first started making miniatures, I struggled with cutting straight, clean lines using just a craft knife. At one point, I even tried using a hacksaw—yes, a hacksaw! Can you imagine the struggles?

Eventually, I discovered the power of a mini table saw, and it completely changed the way I worked! If you’ve been thinking about adding one to your workshop, you’ve probably come across a few options.

I’ve personally used two popular mini table saws, and in this post, I’ll share my experiences to help you decide which one is best for your dollhouse and miniature needs.

If you want a powerful, professional mini table saw that will last you years, go for the Proxxon FET.

I’ve used it to create my treehouse, my backyard shed, my fairy garden outdoor toilet, and so many dollhouse furniture pieces and other things, and the precision is unmatched compared to the KS 230.

If you’re just testing the waters and don’t need anything fancy, the Proxxon KS 230 can get you started. But it was getting to ‘light’ for me.

Why Do You Need a Mini Table Saw for Miniatures?

Before diving into the reviews, let’s talk about why a mini table saw is such a game-changer for miniature projects.

Unlike craft knives or handheld saws, a table saw ensures perfectly straight cuts with minimal effort.

This is crucial when making tiny furniture pieces, window frames, or delicate decorative trims, where even a slight misalignment can throw off the entire scale!

With a mini table saw, you get consistency, speed, and accuracy, all of which are essential for creating high-quality miniatures.

  • Clean, precise cuts – Essential for making furniture, windows, and doors that fit perfectly.
  • Smoother edges – No more ( a lot of) sanding rough cuts from a hand saw.
  • Faster and more accurate – A huge time saver compared to manual cutting methods.

If you’re serious about making miniatures and dollhouses and want consistency in your cuts, a mini table saw is one of the best investments you can make.

PS If you want to create DIY dollhouse kits though, a laser cutter machine is even better!

1. The Proxxon FET Table Saw – My Go-To for Miniatures

The Proxxon FET Table Saw is the one I personally use the most these days and for good reason. It’s a high-quality saw that offers great precision, stability, and versatility for miniature work.

What I Love About the Proxxon FET

Super precise cuts – The fence is well-built, so you get repeatable, straight cuts every time.
Quiet operation – Compared to larger table saws, it’s relatively quiet and won’t disturb the whole house.
Adjustable blade height – This is a huge plus! You can control the depth of your cuts, which is great for different types of wood and materials.
Minimal vibration – Keeps your cuts steady and reduces mistakes.
Great for small-scale projects – It’s designed for fine, delicate work, making it perfect for dollhouses and miniatures. For example, I’ve used it to cut tiny wooden beams for a dollhouse roof and precisely sized panels for miniature furniture, both of which require clean, accurate cuts to fit perfectly.

Any Downsides?

Pricey – It’s more expensive than budget options, but in my experience, the quality makes up for it.
Not for heavy-duty cutting – If you need to cut very thick wood, you might need a bigger (and regular) table saw.

Who is it for? If you’re serious about miniatures and want professional-level precision, the Proxxon FET is worth the investment.

2. The Proxxon KS 230 Table Saw – A Budget-Friendly Alternative

If you’re looking for something smaller and more affordable, the Proxxon KS 230 is another option. I used this saw before upgrading, and while it has its limitations, it’s still a decent entry-level tool.

What’s Good About the Proxxon KS 230?

Compact and lightweight – Takes up less space in your workshop.
Simple to use – Great for beginners who don’t need all the extra features of the FET.
Cheaper option – A budget-friendly choice for those just getting started.

Where It Falls Short

No adjustable blade height – You’re stuck with one cutting depth, which limits versatility.
Lacks precision compared to the FET – The fence isn’t as reliable, so getting perfectly straight cuts can be tricky. Oh boy, did I struggle with that in a long past!
Not great for harder woods – It works best with softwoods and thin materials.

Check out the current price and more details here.

Who is it for? If you’re on a budget and only need a saw for occasional light work, the KS 230 is a good starting point. But if you want more precision and flexibility, the FET is the better choice.

Final Thoughts: My Recommendation

Since switching to the Proxxon FET, I’ve found it much easier to create cleaner, more precise cuts for my miniatures. While the KS 230 is fine for small projects, it just doesn’t offer the same level of accuracy and control.

I wish you happy crafting!

  1. I love making crafts with my daughter.   Our favorite is making race cars for girl scouts.   At this point however, we are just using a simple jigsaw.  This table saw looks totally awesome.  Have you used befor or anyone who has?  This would be an excellent investment.  This was an excellent written post.  I am going to bookmark this post and come back when we have the money to purchase it.  Thank you for this wonderful post.0

  2. Hello Lizzy, crafting is one thing I love doing. Although I am not familiar with Proxxon Circular Saw, I have used some other saw before. The saw I am familiar with is the regular circular saw which is full manual. This Proxxon Circular Saw looks cool for many reasons to me. One major one being that it will make the job faster and more professional. Although it is a bit expensive, it’s worth the value.

    • Hello Rosemary!

Thank you for your question. This article has a need for an update and I will do that as soon as possible.
In the meantime: the table saw number 2 in this article: the Proxxon 37006 KS is one that really is used a lot in the miniature world, and it was the first one that I bought myself.
It was really more than sufficient, it’s just that my partner wanted a heavier one haha, or I wouldn’t have changed.
I could easily change the blades and I don’t think the noise could be any less than that frankly.
But as I said: I need to dive further into these machines and expand the article so you would have more choices.
When you type mini-table saws on Amazon , you get a few more cheaper machines that you might want to take a look at.
Mind you though: the brands coming from Azia are usually just a cheaper version of the original ones from Proxxon, so I would think that these are less sturdy/will break easier and changing parts will not be that easy.
Also, have a look at the warranty to decide on which one to buy!
      Kind regards,
      Lizzy
