I finally got my hands on something I’ve secretly wanted for years: an Asian-style miniature house kit.
And not just any kit: ANAVRIN actually sent me their Ikseon-Dong Hanok Bakery book nook to try out.
Quick disclaimer: they sent me the kit, but I’m not being paid to review it. Everything I say here is completely my own experience.
I was very curious to see how it all worked: they always looked so elegant and different from the Western-style dollhouses I usually build.
I had no idea what to expect: a new style, a new brand, a new type of assembly, so this build was honestly a little adventure for me.
And I’m excited to share what went well, what surprised me, and what I’d recommend if you’re thinking of building this one too.

What Is a Hanok-Style Miniature House Kit (and Who Is ANAVRIN)?
A hanok is a traditional Korean-style house, known for its wooden beams, curved rooflines, and warm, cozy atmosphere.
ANAVRIN has become a well-known miniature kit brand, and this bakery book nook is one of their simpler designs, at least that’s what I think, seeing the other designs.

Unboxing: What’s Inside the Ikseon-Dong Hanok Bakery Kit?
I did a full unboxing on my YouTube channel, and here’s everything that stood out when I opened the box.
Inside the Ikseon-Dong Hanok Bakery kit you’ll find:

- Small wooden blocks that need gluing (more than expected!)
- Plastic bakery items like bread and pastries
- Acrylic and plastic parts for windows and accessories
- Pre-made miniature plants and diorama foliage
- Tweezers and a few tiny tools
- Pre-wired LED lighting system with battery box (already connected!)

What you still need:
- Basic tools: craft knife, scissors, sanding tool

- AAA batteries (2)

Once I started building the Hanok Bakery, I immediately noticed how solid the materials were. The main structure is made from sturdy wood, while many of the decorative and roof elements are plastic. It feels like a nice mix of materials that gives the whole kit a strong, stable base.
I also really enjoyed the Korean-inspired design. I’ve never built anything like this before, and the overall look, especially the roof, is so different from the Western-style kits I usually do. That alone made the build fun.
Two-Part Structure With Hinges
One of the most unique things about this kit is that it’s assembled in two sections:
- the bakery downstairs
- an extra part above it

These two sections are attached with hinges, so you can actually open and close the kit like a little display box. I haven’t seen many miniature kits do this, and it really adds something special.

Wiring Already Done
Another huge plus: the wiring is already assembled.
The battery box comes pre-connected to the LED lights, and all I had to do was pop in the AAA batteries. No soldering, no twisting wires, no stress. I love this new generation of “pre-wired” kits.
(Remember the days when you broke off a lot of those wires in those vintage kits? Aargh, frustrating! )

There’s also an easy light button on the side, which makes switching it on super simple.

You Really Need Grab Fast Tacky Glue
This kit definitely needs grab-fast tacky glue, especially for the roof.
The roof has several plastic pieces that need to be glued on, and the first corner section is quite large and a bit heavy.
Check out which place I mean in the picture below and follow the arrow. This corner piece is a larger and heavier piece than the rest.

You need to hold it against the wooden roof long enough for it to “grab,” or it just slides off.
Here’s the trick (trying to explain what I mean lol):
- Tacky glue grabs quickly, but it needs about 20 minutes to fully lock in
- This DOESN’T mean you have to hold it for 20 minutes
- You only need to keep pressure for a short moment until it stays in place on its own
- After that, leave it alone to strengthen while you work on something else
If you use normal white glue, these roof pieces will drive you crazy. Tacky glue is 100% the way to go.
A Small Note About the Hinges
When attaching the roof hinges, don’t tighten the screws too much.
If the screws are too tight, the roof gets tension and won’t close smoothly. Slightly loosened screws make everything align better.

Quick and Beginner-Friendly
Despite how detailed the final result looks, the entire build took me less than four hours.
It’s honestly a great starter kit: simple enough for beginners, but still satisfying for experienced builders because of the beautiful and unique design.
The only thing I regret doing is using too much glue in the beginning to glue the plastic windows into the walls. This makes it harder to clean them afterwards, if not impossible because it’s plastic.

Hi everyone!
My name is Lizzy, and I am an amateur miniaturist obsessed with everything in the dollhouse and miniature world, ever since I was a teenager.
So far, I have created 2 dollhouse projects, a backyard shed and a miniature treehouse, tons of DIY dollhouse kits, and “hacked” some.
I also created a fairy garden, and lots of small and simple miniature projects on my YouTube channel. (mostly made from trash or everyday items).
I love to write as well about all things happening in the miniature world, hence the reason why I created this blog!
I wish you happy reading and crafting!
