Previously, I have made 2 before. The first one was at the start of my fairy garden, where I made one from a plastic bucket, that would otherwise be thrown away in the trash.
The second was based on a laser-cut fairy house that I needed to assemble and decorate myself. The latter blog posts explain how I made everything.
So my garden is slowly expanding, but still, I'm not totally happy with the result and I "need' lots more stuff in it 😉
Hence the third, and not the last, fairy house that I decorated DIY, with the help of another laser-cut miniature kit.
Let's dive into it with a review of the kit and how I made it!
First: How Did I Make This Fairy House out of wood?
When you are building fairy houses, usually one makes them from examples found on the internet, in combination with your own style/imagination and intuition. Exactly what I did.
- I started out with another laser-cut fairy house kit that I got from Etsy. (it's the second one from this store, I love it).
- So, of course, unpack it, and this is what you get. All the different pieces that you need to assemble.
First, you need to varnish all the pieces. Depending on whether you will place it outside or not (I do in spring/summer, when it's not raining too much), you can add multiple layers of varnish.
I put on three layers of Mod Podge outdoors, but you can use simple ship varnish as well.
- Next up: assemble it with Mod Podge or waterproof wood glue! At the same time, I got a big rock to put the house on later on and took a lot of walks to collect the dark and smaller rocks 😉
- Then I started adding bigger pieces of rocks to the roof, painted some bits red and glued some small and low walls from rocks to the sides (a few centimeters high). <
