Miniature plants and flowers bring a dollhouse to life, making it feel warm and inviting. But let’s be honest—cutting out printables, shaping them, and assembling those tiny pieces can be super fiddly and time-consuming.
Sure, they don’t cost much, but not everyone has the patience for all that detailed work. (much respect for those who can!)
You could buy ready-made miniature plants, but they can be pricey, and the selection isn’t always great, or not what you are looking for.
The good news? There are plenty of simple and budget-friendly ways to make your own mini plants. Here are some of my favorite tricks!
Using Dried Real Plants
One of the easiest ways to make mini plants is by drying real ones, but the smallest ones. I’ve tried all sorts from my garden and nature walks.
Some dried beautifully, keeping their color, while others faded into dull brown.
So in the picture on the left, you can notice that it didn't work out well, to say the least haha (the tiny flowers were originally white), but I keep them to maybe one day spray paint them black for Halloween 🙂
In the picture on the right and the ones below, the colors remained better and the little plants and flowers blend in beautifully to the walls of my treehouse, I think.
It’s a bit of trial and error, but I’ve learned that picking plants at the right time makes a big difference.
Younger plants dry better, and older ones tend to darken or lose vibrancy.
Herbs can change a lot when dried, so observing them over time helps figure out the best moment to collect them.
A Stick That Looks Like a Climbing Rose
This was one of my funniest discoveries! I was eating dates when I noticed the leftover stick had tiny round buds on it.
They looked just like little roses! With a dab of red or pink paint, they turned into perfect climbing roses for my dollhouse.
If you ever eat dates on a stick, remember me and my blog - lol!
Affordable Artificial Flowers and Greenery, or DIY.
Not all tiny fake flowers look, well… fake! These days, you can find some really realistic and very affordable ones on Amazon or in craft stores (have you ever collected scraps of fake flowers on the floors in stores? I have - lol ! 🙂 ), and they’re great for adding pops of color to your dollhouse.

If you DO want to DIY your own flowers or plants, but in a quicker and less finicky way than gluing each small paper leaf to a thin stem, try:
- Crêpe paper and a plastic cap – In my video below, you can see how I created a little plant with flowers from a bottle cap and crêpe paper. Quick and easy!
- Painted foam sponges – Cut into tiny bits and shape them into succulents or bushes. Take a look at the video below!
Making Mini flower vases and plant Pots from Everyday Items
So now that you created tiny flowers and plants for free or very affordable, you of course need something to put them in.
Forget buying expensive tiny pots or vases — you probably have everything you need at home.
Here are some ideas:
- Bottle caps – Paint them or wrap them in paper for a cute planter look.
- Wooden beads – Turn them upside down, and suddenly they’re adorable little planters.
- Toothpaste caps – A bit of paint and they look just like fancy ceramic pots.
- Pen caps – Cut them to size,
