People can sometimes ask the rudest, and sometimes funniest questions about our hobby, have you experienced this too?
Recently, I posed a question in our Facebook community about the strangest things people have said about our dollhouses.
I expected a few amusing or odd responses, but the sheer variety of comments shared by everyone was both surprising and relatable.
For instance, one common thread was the assumption that dollhouses are only for children.
Comments like, “Aren’t you a little old to play with dollhouses?” were echoed by several members. This sentiment seems to be a frequent misunderstanding about our passion.
It’s surprising how some people fail to see that, like any hobby, dollhouses can be enjoyed at any age. As one member put it, “Age is just a number. You are as old as you want to be.”
Another recurring comment was about the practicality or cost of our hobby.
Statements like, “You paid how much?” or “That doesn’t pay for your pension” can feel dismissive, as if every activity we pursue must have some financial return.
The truth is, for many of us, the joy and creativity we find in working on our dollhouses is priceless, and not everything needs to be measured by its monetary value.
There were also some humorous remarks that highlight the imaginative aspects of our work.
One member shared that someone questioned whether the tiny residents in their dollhouse needed a bathroom, pointing out that “the people are made of plastic, so they do not need a bathroom.” It’s these little quirks that make our hobby unique and sometimes funny to those outside the community.
But not all comments were negative or perplexing. Some members shared that everyone they’ve met thinks miniatures are cool, a reminder that our hobby also sparks curiosity and admiration.
It’s clear from these responses that while our passion for dollhouses might sometimes be misunderstood, it’s also a source of joy, creativity, and community for all of us!
On top of this, I gave you 13 reasons why kids AND adults should continue to play with dollhouses and miniatures, do you agree?
