I noticed that whenever I work on a new miniature room, I almost always end up debating the wallpaper again 😂
Sometimes I use scrapbook paper because it’s quick and easy. Other times I print my own wallpaper designs. And every now and then I even end up testing wrapping paper because I liked the pattern too much to ignore it.
So now I’m curious what everyone here prefers most in their own dollhouses and miniature rooms!
1 Scrapbook paper
Very easy to work with and there are endless patterns available.
What I like:
- thicker and easier to glue neatly
- less wrinkling
- often already has good texture and color
Small downside:
- patterns can sometimes look too large for scale
- thicker paper can make corners bulky
2 Printable wallpaper
I probably use this the most lately because you can fully control the scale and style. And of course I have my own Etsy store with wallpaper. You can also get quite a few FREE ones right here on this page;

What I like:
- easy to resize
- endless vintage and modern options
- easier to match with floors and furniture
Small downside:
- Thin printer paper can wrinkle
- Home printers sometimes change colors slightly
3.0 Wrapping paper
This one surprises me sometimes. I’ve found some beautiful tiny-scale patterns on gift wrap.
What I like:
- very cheap
- huge variety during holidays
- some patterns work perfectly in miniature
Small downside:
- often very thin
- tears more easily during gluing
- Shiny finishes can sometimes look unrealistic
I’d really love to know:
- Which method do you use most?
- Have you found a paper type that works surprisingly well?
- Do you seal your wallpaper afterward or leave it as-is?
- And what glue gives you the least headaches? 😅
Photos very welcome too because I always love seeing different wallpaper styles in miniature rooms.
Happy crafting!
Lizzy
