If you enjoy the MGA Miniverse “Make It Mini” kits but find yourself wishing they were a better fit for your dollhouse scale—especially 1:12 or 1:24—you’re not alone. The items are fun and colorful, but their 1:6 scale can feel oversized in more traditional miniature settings.

I’ve written a separate article that takes a closer look at the original MGA Miniverse kits, their appeal, and how they work:
➡️ Miniverse: Make It Mini – Tiny Food, Big Fun

But if you’re already familiar with those kits and are simply looking for alternatives on a smaller scale, I recently asked around in the miniatures community to see what other people are using—and here’s what came up.

Popular Suggestions from Other Miniaturists

  • Japanese and Korean miniature food sets
Brands like Re-Ment and Kracie Popin’ Cookin’ often come up for their highly detailed and tiny food items. While some sets are DIY, many come fully assembled and work well in 1:12 scale. You can find options like the Re-Ment Miniature Sumikko Gurashi Supermarket Set or a Kracie Popin’ Cookin’ Variety Pack on Amazon.

  • AliExpress or Temu resin kits
These sites offer a wide range of budget-friendly miniature food kits and accessories. Many are made from resin and come in smaller scales. Quality can vary, but they’re often a fun place to start if you want something more to scale.

  • Small-batch Etsy sellers
While most Etsy listings feature ready-made items, there are a few hands-on kits available. For example, this Make Your Own Real Miniature Food Kit includes materials to assemble tiny baked goods and is great for hobbyists who enjoy a bit of hands-on work.

  • Independent creators on Instagram or TikTok
Several people also mentioned finding beautiful, tiny resin pieces sold by creators on social media. Some bundle items into themed sets or offer limited-edition drops, which can make collecting more exciting.

  • DIY with resin or polymer clay
If you enjoy making your own miniatures, using UV resin or polymer clay gives you full control over the scale and style. There are many tutorials online, and the results can be surprisingly realistic—even if it takes more time.

No real alternatives?

Even with all these options, there doesn’t seem to be an exact equivalent to the MGA Miniverse kits that combines both the fun of assembling items and packaging that mimics a toy or collectible experience—just in 1:12 or 1:24 scale. For now, it’s a mix of DIY solutions and creative shopping.

Sorry..

Have You Found a Good Alternative?

If you’ve found a kit, shop, or brand that offers a similar experience in a smaller scale, feel free to share it here. Whether you’re looking for detailed accessories, resin kits, or just something fun to do with kids or grandkids, your tips could help others who are looking for the same thing.

Happy crafting!
