How To Change The Size Of Dollhouse Printables – In Canva Or With Adobe Acrobat!

Today, we will be discussing something different than usual, as we solve some problems that might occur when you try to resize dollhouse printables. Have you ever wondered if you can easily change the size of dollhouse printables and had struggles with this?

Well, today, I am not going to show you one way, but 2 different methods for resizing your printables: one is just by using your printer settings and the second one is also a free method, and this is by using the software called Canva. Let’s go!

Method number 1: Use Adobe Acrobat Reader to enlarge or reduce the printable size.

One of the most common questions I tend to receive, whenever I send you free printables through my newsletter, is whether you can print these delightful dollhouse printables in various sizes by simply using your printer and free software. The answer? Absolutely!

But you might be wondering, how exactly? Well, one simple method involves using Adobe Acrobat Reader.

So this is the easiest solution for you, although it can have its own disadvantages.

And the best part? It won’t cost you a dime! Just head over to the Adobe Acrobat Reader download page and download and install the software!

Once you’ve installed Acrobat, the process is quite easy to do:

  1. Open your printable PDF in Acrobat. ( I will always send a print in a PDF file, if not, just use an online PDF converter )
  2. Navigate to the “File” menu, then select “Print.”
  3. Look for the “Page Size and Handling” section and locate the “Custom Scale” option.
  4. Tick the box next to “Custom Scale” and enter the desired percentage. For instance, if you’re scaling down from 1/24th to 1/48th, input 50%.
  5. Hit the “Print” button, and you’re all set!

It’s as easy as that!

Now, if you don’t know how to scale something, feel free to use my free scale converter on my website!

  • Another burning question might be: what’s the ideal paper for this task?

For optimal results, consider using high-resolution photo paper that matches your printer brand. Canon and Epson are reliable choices. Opt for glossy paper for a sleek finish (like bags for chips) or matte paper for easy folding. Here’s my paper recommendation list:

  • Thin matte: Canon HR-101N, 106g/m2
  • Sturdy matte: Canon MP-101, 170g/m2
  • Semi-gloss: Canon Pro Luster, 260g/m2
  • Glossy: Canon Plus Glossy II, PP-301, 265g/m2

In the video below, you can see the whole explanation again in detail:

Method number 2: Use Canva for free to resize dollhouse printables.

I have used Canva for quite some time now and it is amazing what it can do, even for free. It takes some time to get used to, but once you “get it”, you wonder why you would still use photoshop haha!

So, in the former method, I introduced a straightforward technique for adjusting the print area using Adobe.

While it’s a convenient way to quickly shrink the size, enlarging it comes with a limitation. When utilizing this setting, you may find yourself unable to select which part of the print area to enlarge.

This is where Canva’s free version comes in handy, and it can be used on desktop or even smartphones, iPhones and iPads!

Let’s walk through the steps:

Step 1: Sign up for a free Canva account. Simply click the vibrant ‘Sign Up’ button located at the top right corner.

Click on the “Create a design” button on the right-hand side of the screen to access a menu of design options. (this is also available on the left side of the app)

Then, select “Custom size” at the bottom right corner of the screen. This enables you to input the precise dimensions for your print size.

For instance, if you’re working with US letter size, input 8.5 inches for width and 11 inches for height. For A4 size, input 210mm for width and 297mm for height.

Pro Tip: Easily switch between inches and millimeters by clicking on the “in” next to the height box.

Next, upload the file with dollhouse printables you intend to print by clicking on “Uploads” on the far left side of the screen and selecting it. Canva supports various file types, so you should be ok.

Once uploaded, adjust the size and position of the content by dragging the small dots at the corners of the blue box line. This grants you full control over the layout, allowing you to customize it precisely to your preferences, including printing only a portion of the content if needed.

After making all adjustments, download your file by clicking the purple “Download” button on the right-hand side of the screen and your customized print file will then be saved to your device.

You’re now ready to print it by simply opening the file on your preferred device and select the print option to enjoy your custom-sized printout!

That’s it! With Canva’s intuitive interface, resizing print sizes has never been easier. Whether you’re printing on paper or from your mobile device, you now have the flexibility to print anything, anywhere. Happy printing!
