Halloween is the perfect excuse to add something a little spooky to your miniature collection! This DIY miniature witch is made from simple craft materials, with a paper cone for her dress, yarn for her hair, and lots of tiny handmade details.

She’s surprisingly easy to put together, and you can easily change the colors and accessories to give your little witch her own personality. Here’s how I made mine, step by step!

Materials You’ll Need

Basically, all you need are these materials that you might even already have around the house!

• Black foam sheets (plain and glitter foam)
• Wooden bead for the head
• Orange embroidery thread or yarn for the hair
• Thin craft wire for the arms
• Strong craft glue (such as B-6000)
• Scissors
• A small piece of cardboard for wrapping the thread
• Black paper or cardstock for wrapping the wire arms

Step-by-step tutorial

Step 1: Make the Witch’s Body and Top

Start with a rectangular piece of black cardstock. Roll the paper into a cone, overlapping the sides until you have a narrow top and a wider base. Glue the overlapping edge together, then trim the bottom with scissors so the cone stands flat. This will form the witch’s long dress and body.

Next, cut a fan-shaped piece of black glitter foam. Trim the wider edge into several uneven points to create the jagged bottom of her top.

Wrap the glitter foam around the narrow end of the paper cone and glue the edges together. The pointed sections should overlap the top of the black dress, as you can see in the final photo.

Step 2: Add the Witch’s Head

Apply a small amount of strong craft glue to the very top of the body. Then place a round wooden bead on top to create the witch’s head.

Hold it in position for a moment and make sure the bead sits straight before leaving the glue to dry completely.

Step 3: Make and Attach the Hair

Wrap orange embroidery thread repeatedly around a small piece of cardboard until you have a nice thick bundle.

Tie the threads together securely at one end, then cut through the loops at the opposite end and remove them from the cardboard.

Add a little glue to the top and back of the wooden bead and place the tied section of thread over it. Arrange the strands so they fall down both sides of the witch’s head to create her long orange hair.

Step 4: Make the Witch’s Hat

Cut a small piece of black glitter foam and roll it into a narrow cone, overlapping the edges slightly so it keeps its shape.

Use another piece of the same foam to make the brim of the hat. Attach the cone to the center, then trim the foam around it into a neat circle.

Place the finished pointed hat on top of the witch’s head, over the orange hair, and glue it securely in place.

Step 5: Make and Attach the Arms

Cut a piece of thin wire for the witch’s arms. Next, cut a narrow strip of black foam and wrap it tightly around the wire.

Twist the foam-covered wire between your fingers to give it a slightly textured, uneven look.

Make the arms this way, then glue it to each side of the witch’s upper body. Bend and position them however you like—the wire inside makes the arms easy to pose.

Opening the Cats Crossing box, you’ll find pretty much everything neatly packed and ready to start building. The kit contains 407 pieces, including the pre-cut wooden parts for the main structure, all the tiny decorative elements, greenery, miniature books and, of course, plenty of little cats!

You also get the parts needed for the LED lighting and infinity-mirror effect, which is one of the features that makes this particular book nook stand out. The pieces are pre-cut and pre-colored, so this isn’t the type of miniature kit where you’ll need to paint everything from scratch.

Everything comes with illustrated instructions to guide you through the assembly, and the different components are organized to make figuring out what belongs where a little easier.

My Experience Building the Cats Crossing Book Nook

I have to start by saying that I absolutely love the design of this book nook. There is so much to look at! (yes, I know I have said that before about other book nook kits from Anavrin hahaha)

The combination of the bookshelves, greenery and all those little cats creates such a charming scene, and the small infinity mirror is a particularly clever detail.

It gives the impression that the little passage continues much further into the distance than it actually does.

Despite the amount of detail, I found Cats Crossing surprisingly easy to assemble. The pieces fitted together well and I never felt that the actual construction was particularly difficult.

There are, however, a LOT of tiny books to make! They aren't difficult to assemble, but there are enough of them that you'll probably be quite happy when you finally finish the last one.

One funny detail: the little books had covers in my own native language: Dutch! With well-known Dutch authors, what a terrific detail! Some mistakes here and there, but what a great idea! :-)

One part I would recommend being a little more careful with is the large tree trunk and root structure. This piece is more delicate than most of the kit and I felt that it could potentially break if I put too much pressure on it.

When gluing the different parts of the tree together, I used clamps to hold everything firmly in position while the glue dried. This worked really well and kept everything securely together.

I only ran into one other small problem during the entire build, and that was actually my own mistake. There is a lovely hanging lamp shaped like a flower, with green leaves and a small green bead underneath.

I accidentally installed it facing the wrong direction, and when I tried to correct it, the little green bead broke off.

Luckily, it turned out to be a very easy mistake to fix. I simply glued the bead back into place and used some of the greenery supplied with the kit to disguise the damaged area.

That is actually something I really enjoyed about Cats Crossing: the greenery gives you quite a bit of freedom.

You don't have to make every leaf, vine, and patch of grass look exactly like the example. You can arrange things a little differently, hide small imperfections, and make the scene feel more natural.

Check out the final result!

If there's one point of attention, it might be the higher price for this high-tier quality DIY kit.

But the quality of this book nook makes up for it, in my opinion. Especially with the dust not being able to reach the project that easily because of the dust covers lol:

Wrapping up

Overall, I found this a very relaxing build rather than a frustrating one. There are plenty of tiny details to keep things interesting, but nothing I encountered was particularly complicated.

And watching the shelves, cats, plants and little illuminated passage gradually come together was probably my favorite part of the whole project.

How much trouble am I in?

Miniature lanterns are one of those tiny details that can add so much character to a dollhouse scene.

And the fun part? You can make one almost entirely from old buttons and a small bead (yeah, from trash!) .In this tutorial, I’ll show you how I turned a few mismatched buttons into a surprisingly realistic little lantern, perfect for a dollhouse, miniature room, garden scene or rustic diorama.

List of Materials

• A selection of old buttons in different sizes and shapes
• Small transparent faceted bead for the glass part of the lantern
• Strong craft glue (I used B-6000)
• Thin craft wire for the lantern handle
• Acrylic paint in your preferred metallic color, such as copper, silver or bronze
• Small paintbrush
• Wire cutters
• Needle-nose pliers for bending the wire
• Tweezers (optional, but useful for handling the tiny pieces)

Step-by-step tutorial

Just follow the steps, one by one; we are doing a very easy tutorial today!

Step 1: Build the Base of the Miniature Lantern

Start with a larger flat button for the bottom of the lantern.

Add a small amount of strong craft glue to the center and glue a slightly smaller button on top.

I used buttons with different shapes and textures, as these little differences will give the lantern more detail once everything is painted.

Next, glue a faceted transparent bead in the center. This will become the glass section of the lantern.

Finally, glue another small button on top of the bead to create the upper rim.

Let the glue dry properly before continuing, as the stacked pieces can easily shift while you are working on the next part.

Step 2: Build the Top and Make the Handle

To give the lantern a more detailed top, glue another decorative button on top of the upper button.

Then finally, use a button with a raised loop in the center, which works perfectly as the little fitting you often see on an old-fashioned lantern.

For the larger carrying handle, take a metal paper clip and carefully bend it into a tall, narrow arch. Adjust the shape and size so that it fits neatly over the lantern.

Step 3: Attach the Handle and Paint the Lantern

Glue the two ends of the paper-clip handle to opposite sides of the top section, creating the tall handle over the lantern. Make sure it sits straight and allow the glue to dry completely before painting.

Now paint all the button pieces and the handle with metallic acrylic paint, while leaving the faceted bead unpainted so it still looks like colored glass.

I made one lantern in a warm copper finish and another in silver, but you can use any metallic shade that suits your miniature scene.

Once the paint has dried, your tiny lantern is finished! The different shapes and textures of the stacked buttons really come together once they're painted, and no two lanterns have to look exactly the same.

This is also a fun way to use up all those odd buttons that never seem to match anything else.

Conclusion

And that’s it! With just a few old buttons, a bead and a piece of paper clip, you can create a surprisingly detailed little lantern for your dollhouse or miniature scene. Experiment with different buttons, beads, and metallic paint colors: every lantern will turn out a little different!

Popsicle sticks are one of those simple craft materials that can be turned into almost anything, and this time we're making a miniature kitchen cabinet with a countertop, open shelving and a cupboard door.

The construction is quite simple once you break it down into separate sections, and you can easily customize the finished cabinet with paint, tiny accessories or whatever style suits your dollhouse.

List of Materials

For this miniature kitchen cabinet, you will need:

• Jumbo-sized wooden popsicle/craft sticks
• Craft knife or small cutting tool (learn how to cut them here)
• Cutting mat
• Ruler and pencil
• Wood glue or your preferred miniature craft glue
• White craft/acrylic paint
• Small paintbrush
• Thin black craft wire for the cupboard handle
• Scissors or small wire cutters
• A narrow strip of paper for the cupboard-door hinge

Step-by-step tutorial

Step 1: Build the Back Panel of the Miniature Kitchen

Start by laying 8 large popsicle sticks, approximately 15 cm long and 1.8 cm wide each, side by side, making sure they sit as closely together and as straight as possible. These will form the main back wall of the miniature kitchen.

Once you are happy with their position, take another popsicle stick and glue it horizontally across the sticks, close to one end. This will hold all eight sticks together.

Add a second horizontal popsicle stick across the opposite end. Press everything firmly into place and allow the glue to dry completely before moving the panel.

You should now have one solid wooden panel made from eight vertical popsicle sticks, reinforced by two horizontal sticks on the back. We'll trim and shape the panel in the next steps.

Step 2: Add the Top and the Shelf

Next, take two more jumbo craft sticks and glue them together side by side. Cut two small pieces from another craft stick and glue these across the back, one near each end, to hold the two sticks securely together.

Once dry, attach this double-stick piece horizontally to the top of the back wall, as shown in the pictures. Let it stick out slightly at the front to create a little overhanging top.

Then glue one full craft stick horizontally across the front of the back wall, a little further down. This will become the small upper shelf of the miniature kitchen.

At this point, the back wall already starts looking much more like a tiny kitchen!

Step 3: Make and Attach the Countertop

For the countertop, place three jumbo craft sticks side by side. Cut two short pieces from another stick and glue them vertically across the back to hold all three sticks together securely.

Once the glue has dried, turn the countertop over and position it horizontally against the bottom of the back wall. Glue it in place so that it projects forward, creating the work surface for the miniature kitchen.

Make sure the countertop sits straight and forms roughly a 90-degree angle with the back wall. Hold it in position until the glue has grabbed well enough to support it.

You should now have the basic structure of the kitchen: the back wall, top, upper shelf, and countertop.

Step 4: Make the Side Panels and Dividers

Now we can start building the lower cabinets.

Cut three equal pieces from a jumbo craft stick and place them side by side to form a small rectangular panel. Cut another narrow piece and glue it vertically across the back to hold the three pieces together.

Make three of these panels in total.

Glue one panel upright at the left end of the countertop to create the outer side of the cabinet. On the right-hand side, glue another panel upright to form the outer wall, then add the third panel further inward as a divider.

Try to keep all three panels at a 90-degree angle to the countertop while the glue dries. You now have the basic compartments for the lower kitchen cabinet, ready for the shelves and door in the next steps.

Step 5: Make and Attach the Countertop

Place three jumbo popsicle sticks side by side to form a wide panel. Glue two short support pieces across the back to hold the three sticks together securely.

Once dry, position this panel horizontally across the front of the lower cabinet section. It becomes the countertop, extending slightly past the cabinet sides and sitting on top of the lower cupboards.

Make sure it is straight before the glue sets, as this countertop becomes the main work surface of the miniature kitchen.

Step 6: Make the Cabinet Door

For the little cupboard on the right, make a simple wooden door from three short pieces cut from the jumbo popsicle sticks. Place them tightly side by side, then glue two narrow wooden strips across the back, one near the top and one near the bottom. These keep the three pieces together and make the door sturdier.

To make the door actually open and close, I used a small strip of paper as a simple hinge. Glue one side of the paper strip to the back edge of the door and glue the other side to the inside edge of the cabinet.

Let the glue dry properly before moving the door. Once attached, the paper bends easily and works surprisingly well as a tiny hinge, giving the miniature kitchen a working cupboard door rather than just a decorative one.

Step 7: Add the Shelf, Paint and Finish the Cupboard Door

Add a small shelf inside the open cupboard section on the left, gluing it horizontally between the side wall and the center divider. This creates two little storage spaces.

Next, paint the parts you want to finish. Here, I painted a few parts white, while the shelves and other wooden details are left natural.

For the cupboard handle, bend a tiny piece of thin black wire or even paper into a small rectangular handle shape. Glue it vertically onto the front of the door.

And that finishes the basic cupboard section! The right side now has a working door with a little black handle, while the left remains open with a shelf for displaying miniature kitchen accessories later.

This miniature hanging swing chair is made mainly from popsicle sticks, with small beads, thread and metal chains added to create the suspension system. The finished chair has a simple wooden seat, armrests and a decorative geometric backrest, making it suitable for a dollhouse porch, miniature garden or small-scale outdoor scene.

In this step-by-step tutorial, I’ll show you how the individual wooden pieces are cut, assembled, reinforced and sanded before the chains and decorative details are added. It may look intricate when finished, but the construction starts with a very simple square seat made from short pieces of popsicle stick.

Materials You'll Need

Before you get started, gather the following materials:

• Popsicle sticks (craft sticks)
• matchsticks
• Crafting Glue (like Grab Fast Tacky glue)
• Craft knife or hobby knife
• Metal ruler
• Cutting mat

This project is suitable for several miniature scales depending on the final dimensions.

Step-by-step tutorial

Let's get straight to the tutorial again!

Step 1: Build the Seat Base

Begin by cutting five pieces measuring approximately 5 cm long from a popsicle stick. Arrange them side by side to create a square seat measuring about 5 × 5 cm.

Next, cut two support strips, each approximately 4.5 cm long, and glue them across the back of the seat—one near the top and one near the bottom. These reinforcement pieces will hold the seat together and keep it nice and sturdy.

Once the glue has completely dried, turn the seat over and use fine-grit sandpaper to smooth the edges and gently round the four corners. This simple step gives the seat a much cleaner, more professional finish and prepares it for the rest of the build.

Step 2: Attach the First Side Support

Cut one full-width popsicle stick to 5 cm. This piece will become the first side support of your miniature swing.

Apply a thin line of glue along one long edge of the stick and position it vertically against the side of the seat base, making sure it sits flush with the bottom edge. Hold it in place for a few seconds until the glue has set.

Take your time aligning this piece carefully, as it will determine how straight the rest of the swing frame will be.

Step 3: Build the Back Frame

Cut a popsicle stick in half to get 2 narrow strips.

Cut these again, to get 3 pieces with the same height as the back strip in the picture above.

Trim the ends of all three pieces at a 45-degree angle so they fit together neatly.

Glue the pieces together to form a rectangular frame.

Finally, glue the completed frame to the back of the seat, making sure it is centered and sits straight before the glue sets. Measure everything again beforehand to make sure it fits perfectly to the back.

Step 4: Add the Front Arm Supports

Cut two narrow strips measuring approximately 2.5 cm. Trim the ends of each strip at a slight angle so it will sit neatly beneath the armrests later.

Glue the strips vertically to the front corners of the seat, with the angled ends pointing inward. Try to keep both supports at the same angle so the armrests will sit evenly later.

Allow the glue to cool completely before moving on to the next step.

Step 5: Make the Armrests

Cut two popsicle stick pieces measuring approximately 5,5 cm long. Leave one rounded end intact, as this will become the front of each armrest.

Using an X-Acto knife, a mini drill, or a pin vise, carefully make two small holes near the squared end of each armrest. Thread a thin piece of string through the holes and slide five small pearl beads onto each side. Tie or secure the thread so the beads stay in place.

Finally, glue each armrest onto the chair by attaching the beaded ends to the back frame and resting the front of the armrest on the angled front support. Repeat on the opposite side and make sure both armrests are level before the glue dries.

Step 6: Add the Decorative Back Supports

Cut three matchsticks or thin wooden sticks to approximately 2.5 cm long. Trim both ends at a slight angle so they fit neatly between the center back support and the outer frame.

Starting at the top, glue the first stick in place so it slopes gently downward toward the outside of the chair. Repeat with the remaining two pieces, spacing them evenly to create the decorative crisscross-style backrest shown in the photos.

Take your time adjusting each piece before the glue sets—the small angled braces give the chair its finished look and add extra strength to the backrest.

Step 7: Attach the Hanging Chains

To finish your miniature porch swing, attach the hanging hardware.

Thread the two beaded cords through two small jump rings (approximately 6–8 mm in diameter), one for each side of the chair. Close the jump rings securely with small jewelry pliers.

Next, attach a length of fine metal chain to each jump ring. Adjust both chains until they are the same length so the swing hangs level.

You can now hang your miniature porch swing from a dollhouse ceiling, porch roof, or display stand. If you'd like, paint or stain the wood first, then add tiny cushions or pillows for an even cozier finishing touch.

Conclusion

• Kitchen paper (or a paper towel) for the padding
• Hot glue gun and glue sticks

Step-by-step tutorial

Step 1: Make the Seat Base

Draw a circle onto a piece of sturdy cardboard and cut it out. Repeat to make a second identical circle, then glue the two pieces together. Doubling the cardboard creates a stronger base for your Barbie chair and helps it hold its shape.

Step 2: Cut the Backrest Pieces

Using bamboo skewers, cut all the pieces needed for the chair frame. Accuracy is important, so measure each piece carefully before cutting.

• Base pieces: Cut one piece measuring 6 cm and one piece measuring 5.5 cm.
• Central backrest sticks: Cut 2 pieces measuring 6.3 cm.
• Remaining backrest and side sticks: Cut the remaining pieces by reducing the length by 0.8 cm for each pair as you move outward from the center. This gradual reduction creates the curved shape of the chair back and armrests.
• Legs: Cut 4 pieces measuring 5 cm.

Lay all the pieces out in order from the longest to the shortest before moving on to the next step. This makes the assembly much easier and helps keep both sides of the chair perfectly symmetrical.

Step 3: Add Padding to the Backrest Pieces

Separate a paper towel into a single ply and cut it into strips that are slightly wider than your craft sticks.

Apply a thin line of hot glue down the center of each wooden piece, then press it onto the paper towel. Trim away the excess paper and repeat until all of the backrest pieces have a thin layer of padding. This will give the finished chair a soft, upholstered appearance once the fabric is added.

Step 4: Trim the Padding

Once the glue has cooled, trim away the excess paper towel around each craft stick with a pair of scissors. Follow the shape of the rounded top as closely as possible so every piece has a neat, even finish.

When you're done, arrange the padded pieces by size and set them aside for the next step.

Step 5: Cover the Cushions with Fabric

Cut a piece of fabric slightly larger than each padded craft stick. Apply a thin line of hot glue around the edges of the paper towel layer, then place the fabric over the front and press it down gently, smoothing out any wrinkles.

Turn the piece over and add a small dab of hot glue to the rounded top. Fold the fabric neatly over the curved edge and press it into place.

Next, glue the long sides, pulling the fabric snug as you fold it over to the back. Finally, fold and glue the bottom edge, trimming away any bulky excess if needed.

Repeat this process for all of the padded pieces until every cushion is neatly covered in fabric.

Step 6: Make the Side Cushions

For the narrow side cushions, cut a strip of fabric that is wide enough to wrap completely around the padded craft stick. Apply a thin line of hot glue along the back seam, then fold the fabric over and press the edges together to create a smooth, rounded cushion.

Hold the seam closed for a few seconds while the glue cools. Try to keep the seam as straight and narrow as possible, as it will be glued against the chair frame later and won't be visible.

Repeat this process for all of the narrow side cushions. You should now have soft, fabric-covered cushions with a neat rounded front and a single glued seam running along the back.

Step 7: Make and Cover the Seat Cushion

Take one of the cardboard circles and cover the top with a layer of kitchen paper to add a little softness and volume. Trim the paper roughly to the shape of the circle.

Place this padded circle in the center of a larger piece of pink fabric. Pull the fabric around the edges and glue it to the back, working gradually around the circle so the front stays smooth.

Once the fabric is secured, glue the second cardboard circle onto the back. This hides the folded fabric edges and gives the cushion a firm, tidy base.

I think it is better in this case to let the multiple pictures do the talking:

Step 8: Assemble the Upholstered Chair

Apply a generous amount of hot glue to the bottom end of one upholstered tube and press it firmly against the back edge of the seat cushion. Hold it in place for a few seconds until the glue sets. Attach the second tube beside the first, making sure both pieces are straight and evenly aligned.

Continue gluing the remaining upholstered tubes one by one around the curved edge of the seat, spacing them evenly to create the chair's rounded back and armrests. The tubes at the sides naturally curve forward, giving the chair its distinctive wraparound shape.

Once all the pieces have been attached, check that they are evenly spaced and make any small adjustments before the glue fully hardens. The result is a soft, rounded accent chair ready for the final finishing touches.

Step 9: Finish the Chair with Decorative Piping

Create a long, thin fabric cord by wrapping a narrow strip of fabric tightly around a piece of string or thin cord. This will become the decorative piping that hides the raw edges and gives the chair a polished, upholstered finish.

Starting at one side of the chair, apply a thin bead of hot glue along the front edge of the seat base and press the piping into place. Work slowly around the curved front of the chair, keeping the piping snug against the edge. Continue gluing until you reach the opposite side, trimming off any excess.

Once the piping is attached, gently press it down with your fingers so it follows the curve of the chair evenly. This simple finishing detail conceals the fabric edges and gives the miniature chair a much cleaner, more professional appearance.

Step 10: Attach the Chair Legs

Cut four bamboo skewers to the desired length for the chair legs. Turn the chair upside down and use a pointed skewer to carefully make four pilot holes in the cardboard base where you marked the leg positions earlier. These small holes make it much easier to insert the legs neatly.

Add a generous drop of hot glue into each hole, then insert a bamboo skewer at a slight outward angle. Repeat for all four legs, checking from different angles to make sure they are evenly spaced and the chair stands level. Hold each leg in place for a few seconds while the glue sets.

Your Miniature Chair Is Finished!

Looking for an easy dollhouse furniture project? This miniature chair is made almost entirely from ordinary wooden matchsticks and a little thread for the woven seat. It's inexpensive to make, requires only a few basic tools, and is a great project for beginners who want to try building realistic miniature furniture from scratch.

In this tutorial, I'll show you how to cut the matchsticks, assemble the chair frame, and weave the seat to create a sturdy little chair that's perfect for any 1:12 scale dollhouse kitchen, dining room, or cottage.

Materials needed

• Wooden matchsticks (heads removed), long and short ones
• Craft knife or scissors
• Metal ruler
• Tweezers
• Fast-drying craft glue (such as B-7000)
• Fine sandpaper
• Brown embroidery floss, crochet thread, or thin cotton cord for the woven seat

Step-by-step tutorial

Step 1 – Cut the Matchsticks

Start by cutting all of the matchsticks you'll need for the first side of the chair frame.

Cut the following pieces for the first side of the chair:

• 2 matchsticks measuring 8 cm (chair legs)
• 10 short matchstick pieces of equal length (about 3.5 cm)

Make all 10 short pieces exactly the same length. We'll refer to them as the crossbars throughout the tutorial.

Step 2: Build the First Side of the Chair

Apply a small drop of wood glue to the top of one of the 8 cm chair legs. Position a 3.5 cm crossbar so it sits flush with the top of the leg, forming a right angle.

Next, glue a second 3.5 cm crossbar directly underneath the first one, leaving a narrow gap between the two pieces. These two bars will become the chair's backrest.

Then, glue a third 3.5 cm crossbar lower down the leg, about in the middle. This piece will support the seat, so try to keep it level with the backrest bars.

Allow the glue to set for a few minutes before moving on to the next step.

Finally, glue the fourth crossbar close to the bottom of the leg. This will strengthen the frame and act as the lower side support.

Tip: A small engineer's square or a ruler helps keep every crossbar at a perfect 90° angle. A straight side frame will make the rest of the chair much easier to assemble.

Take the second 8 cm matchstick and glue it to the opposite ends of the four horizontal crossbars, completing the side frame of the chair.

Step 3: Build the Seat Frame

Next, glue four 3.5 cm matchsticks upright onto the frame as shown in the photos.

Position 4 of them at the back of the seat area. These pieces form the supports for the seat.

Step 4: Connect the Front Legs

Using the remaining 3.5 cm matchsticks, build the front frame.

1. Glue one 3.5 cm stick between the tops of the two front legs. This forms the front edge of the seat.
2. Glue another 3.5 cm stick between the front legs near the bottom, level with the rear lower crossbar. This strengthens the base.
3. Finally, glue one 3.5 cm stick on each side, connecting the lower front and rear legs. These are the lower side stretchers.

When finished, the chair frame should look like the final photo—a sturdy open frame with the seat opening ready for the next stage.

Allow the glue to dry before continuing to the next step.

Final frame: if you can make it straighter than I have, I admire you! hahaha

Tip: Make a straight drawing on a piece of paper of the chair, so you would just need to align your wooden sticks to the building plan when you glue them together. I should have done that in the first place!

Step 5: Start the Woven Seat

Materials

• Thin embroidery floss, crochet cotton, or strong sewing thread
• Large sewing needle

• 1. Tie the thread

Tie one end of the thread securely around the front-left corner of the seat frame (the horizontal seat rail).

Leave a short tail and pull the knot tight.

• 2. Make the first loop

Bring the thread:

• up the outside of the left side rail,
• across the top,
• down the inside,
• underneath the front rail,
• back to where you started.

This creates one complete loop around the seat opening.

• 3. Continue wrapping

Repeat the same movement over and over.

Each loop should sit directly beside the previous one.

Keep the thread under even tension so it stays straight but doesn't bend the wooden frame.

• 4. Fill the seat

Continue!

There are approximately 15-16 parallel strands covering roughly the seat opening.

Keep the strands together

As you wrap, gently push the strands together with your fingernail so there are no large gaps.

Finish wrapping the warp threads. Continue wrapping the thread around the seat frame until the entire seat is covered with evenly spaced vertical strands. Tie off or secure the thread on the right side of the frame.

• 5: Weave the Seat

With all of the vertical threads (the warp) in place, you can begin weaving the seat.

Thread the same cotton onto a large sewing needle. Starting at one side of the chair, pass the needle over one vertical strand, under the next, alternating all the way across the seat.

Pull the thread through and use the needle to gently push the woven row down against the wrapped front edge. On the next row, reverse the pattern by weaving under the first strand, over the next, continuing to alternate each row.

Continue weaving back and forth until the entire seat is filled with an even basket-weave pattern. Every few rows, use the needle to pack the weave tightly together so there are no large gaps.

When you reach the back of the seat, wrap the thread neatly around the rear crossbar several times to match the wrapped edge at the front. Tie a small knot underneath the seat and trim the excess thread.

The woven seat should now be firm, evenly tensioned, and completely cover the chair frame, creating a realistic miniature woven chair seat.
