To answer your question, I think that the little chair with a button would be just a bit too hard for a 6-year-old, but the fairy garden looks doable, in my opinion! The best thing is to do it together though;-)

She loves gardening, and they often go camping, so I can see the appeal of the fairy mini garden and the miniature tipi. And as I am a seamstress, there are always buttons around, so making these little button chairs is a great idea. I am just wondering if these projects would be suitable for a six year old? Or would it be too taxing for her? Thank you.

Why not teach your kids how to have fun with handcrafted dollhouse miniatures?

Because spending some time with them as a parent or grandparent and creating beautiful things with them can be cherished for years to come.

In this article, we will try to share some tips and tricks to get crafting with your little ones in the dollhouse world.

Also, as time passes, this blog post will be expanded as I find new and easy projects to do for your kids.

Let's dive straight into the different projects that you could do with your kids.

Idea number 1. Create A Fairy Garden For Kids

Creating a fairy garden means creating a magical world with fairies, fairy houses, and miniatures hidden in the "woods" or between plants. A perfect project for your kids (and adults lol) !

I have created my own fairy garden furniture, fairy houses, and more, but it doesn't need to be this "complicated" and you and your kids can have a great time creating them, indoors or outdoors.

Let's see how to proceed, starting with:

The materials needed to create a fairy garden:

• A shallow container or pot
• Potting soil
• Miniature plants (such as succulents or ferns)
• Small rocks or pebbles
• Miniature fairy figurines or other accessories (such as tiny benches, bridges, or birdhouses)
• Twigs or sticks
• String or twine
• Glue

I have found that on several platforms, like Etsy, you can find multiple sellers for fairy garden kits for kids.

A simple walkthrough for an easy fairy garden for kids:

• Select a shallow pot or container of any kind to place your fairy garden in, it can be any kind, as long as it is not too deep to place the mini plants in.
  
• Add potting soil to the container, leave enough space to place miniature plants and accessories
  
• The easiest plants to add to a fairy garden are succulents, but I have written an extensive list of miniature plants that you could use in any garden.
  
• You can add any garden accessories, like pebbles, pieces of wood, rocks, archways, etc
  
• The time is come to now add your fairies, gnomes, or other figurines that you prefer and other accessories like little mailboxes, fairy bridges, benches, mushrooms, birdhouses, little fences, etc. This will add to the magical atmosphere.
  
• Finally, you can add also outdoor miniature lights to have your fairy garden glowing in the dark :-)
  

You can also have your child create fairy garden stuff itself with materials like popsicle sticks, because why not? ;-)

Check out my tutorial on how to craft a popsicle miniature bridge, for example, it is quite easy to do. But supervise your child though!

Idea number 2. Create a Miniature Teepee or Tipi.

In the series for handcrafted dollhouse miniatures for kids, making a small teepee is very easy to do and thus very suitable for a project for kids.

In the video below, you can see the total process and walkthrough:

Materials needed to create a tipi:

• Craft paper or paper bag
• A plastic plate
• scissors
• crayons or markers
• willow twigs
• a glue gun

How To Create a Miniature Tipi, a little walkthrough.

• Cut out a circle from the paper, with the help of the plastic plate, or use something else round.
  
• Fold this in half and cut into 2 halves. Fold these 2 again in half and cut out a small circle, this forms the bottom of the tipi.
  
• Your kid can now create drawings on these pieces of paper and decorate it as they wish
  
• Use a glue gun to attach the willow twigs to the paper, as seen in the video below by whispering winds.
  
• Then fold and glue everything together so you have your miniature Tippi! Just cut out one more little side for the door-opening

Idea Number 3: Create a cardboard dollhouse.

Creating a dollhouse from cardboard might be a little bit harder to do for your child than other miniature projects, but still would be doable, depending on their age.

I remember creating one myself at the age of about 13-14 if I remember well, but it really depends on how crafty your kid is I would think;-)

In the video below, the presenter shows you how to make a doll's house using different-sized cardboard boxes.

Using his method, your kid and you can create a cardboard dollhouse with unique shapes, a sloping roof, windows, doors and a chimney.

A little walkthrough:

• draw a building plan before gluing boxes together
• To ensure that the dollhouse keeps standing up straight and the walls are smooth, it is better to close the flaps and tape up the seams on all the boxes before gluing them together
• The biggest box is used as the base and the smaller boxes are glued on top one by one.
• After that, the presenter shows you how to create a sloped roof using long strips of cardboard, which is held in place with glue and pieces of sticky tape.
• Then a toilet roll is used to make a chimney, which gets attached to the roof using sticky tape.
• When the cardboard dollhouse is assembled, it is time to paint it, in any color that you and your child like.
• Windows, doors, and other details can be drawn on the dollhouse using a marker pen or a thin paintbrush.

There are lots of other ways to create a cardboard dollhouse, but I would assume these methods are not suitable for kids.

Idea number 4: Create Miniature soda bottles.

Another fun way for your kids to create their own little minis is by creating little soda bottles.

First, you can help them print the miniature soda bottle labels. In this blog post, I have taught you how exactly to print these and where to find printable dollhouse labels.

See if you can find these types of pipettes:

And cut off the edge of the pipette, like this:

Apply some glue from a glue gun on a piece of baking paper, push it against the pipet, and let it dry up.

With this result:

Remove the superfluous glue and your bottle is now "sealed"

You can now use a syringe to fill up the bottle with liquid (with or without a color, for Coca-Cola, etc..) :

Get some Hama beads

Glue the beads on top of the bottle and glue the soda labels on the bottles, done!

Idea Number 5: Create miniature grocery bags and packages.

Cut out prints from advertising magazines.

Assemble and stick pieces together on the edges with transparent adhesive tape, and there you have your assembled bags.

Idea Number 6: How to create a miniature birdhouse with popsicle stics?

In our world of handcrafted dollhouse miniatures, this little project can be done by kids as well, just not for toddlers or small kids, as this project does require a crafting knife.

What you need is:

• popsicle sticks
• a crafting knife
• a ruler
• a mini-drill
• a pencil
• fast-grab tacky glue
• acryl paint
• skewer sticks
• metal wire

Cut out the popsicle sticks and glue them together like the walkthrough shown in the video below, to create cute little birdhouses.

When finished, you can create a little fairy garden in a bowl as well for these cuties ;-)

Idea number 7: Create a Quick mini spaghetti dish

How to easily create a little spaghetti dish, a quick project. What you need:

• rubber bands or yarn
• a plastic spoon
• scissors
• fast grab tacky glue
• small beads
• white nail polish

Cut off a piece of the plastic spoon to form the bowl for the "spaghetti"

Glue the spaghetti into the bowl and add a layer of tacky glue on top.

Glue some beads on the "spaghetti" and "paint" the plastic spoon white by using nail polish.

Idea number 8: create some papercraft miniatures.

While these kinds of miniature projects made just using crafting paper aren't difficult to do, they might take some more time before they are finished.

But having fun for a longer time is good, no, unless your child is a little too impatient for these haha ;-)

I have created a few miniature papercraft videos myself as well, you can easily do these with your kids and you usually just need some (crafting) paper, glue, and scissors.

Idea number 9: Crafting with matchboxes.

Again something quite easy to do, and that is to create miniature furniture with the help of empty matchboxes.

I think we all made a mini cupboard as a kid by using these materials?

For the next project you need:

• 3 matchboxes
• scissors
• strong paper with a color of your own choice
• crafting glue/ a glue gun
• some kind of a round stick to create the table legs

Just follow the instructions in the video and you and your child will create a pretty miniature organizer!

Idea Number 10: A miniature chair with the help of an old button!

Let your child train his coordination and creativity by crafting a tiny chair with the help of an old button and upcycling it! Level up your handcrafted dollhouse miniatures ;-)

What you need is:

• a button
• sandpaper
• wooden skewer sticks
• crafting glue
• a cutter

Idea Number 11: 2 different methods to make a DIY miniature basket!

You just need popsicle sticks, glue, rope, a plastic cup, spray paint and scissors!

Idea number 12: how to make a miniature stove with a toilet roll!

Another simple way to create a miniature piece is this mini stove, quite easy to do for your kid as well!

What you need is:

• the cardboard roll from kitchen paper or a toilet roll
• cardboard
• scissors
• painters tape
• crafting glue
• egg carton
• some lace
• black spray paint

That's it! Just follow the instructions in the video and you will get there I'm sure! And you might even find a way to have the little "door" opening up, as to show a "fire" burning?

Idea number 13: how to make miniature tissue boxes?

For the next project on creating miniature tissue boxes, you only need paper, scissors and tissues! Have fun!
