I'm Helga and I live in France.

I'm actually not a dollhouse builder but a miniature builder.

My first wooden build was a little vintage car I got as a gift with an online order and I loved doing that. But I never looked any further untill one of my friends showed a booknook she made. I loved that so much that I started to look around myself.

I found a lovely booknook to start with, and it got me completely hooked on building miniatures.
I started to look for groups and pages with tips and suggestions and got so many ideas and a 'I want that too' list that became longer and longer.

When building my third miniature I had enough selfconfidence, also thanks to all I saw on those groups and pages to start personalising my kit but that's also where it became a bit difficult, I found out that there's so much recalculating to do and so much changing of what I want in different programms etc. It got me quite confused to be honest.

I stumbled upon this site because I was looking further for printables like books and wallpapers and paintings.

I love the explanations here but especially the various printables that Lizzy makes for us.

The only thing now that I have to learn is how to convert Lizzy's printables into the right scales for my builds, they are usually 1:24 and dollhouse scales are bigger.

So I hope to learn a lot here, even though I don't build dollhouses.

Its been a long minute since I posted on forums and whatnot, so I gotta used to the formatting again lol.

I've been making miniatures since 2012. I started out very small (lol) and grew to a meager following before I took a 4 year break in early 2022. I am now getting myself back in the mini game, and holy canoli.....the amount of tutorials and mini makers out here is astounding! I have a mere 600 followers on my Instagram, and wayyyyy less on my Facebook lol.

I havent been back very long, but i was already invited to sell my minis at a miniature show! Its the PNW Mini Show out of Portland, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. I'm doing the Portland one this October. It will be my very first all mini dedicated event. Im nervous....and excited!!

I hope that I can offer advice here thats helpful and learn some new stuff too!

I recently finished building the Choshi no Shitamachi miniature house from CUTEBEE, one of the kits in their Japanese-themed series.

This kit recreates a small Japanese izakaya (pub or restaurant) complete with lanterns, food displays, sake bottles, a tiny Shiba Inu, and lots of traditional details.

Unlike many larger miniature houses, this one is relatively compact and designed to be completed in just a few hours, exactly what I needed this time. According to CUTEBEE, the kit contains 218 pieces and is rated as a beginner-to-intermediate project.

After spending time building it myself, I wanted to share what I liked and what I didn't like. (spoiler alert: there wasn't anything I really disliked this time)

This was one of the easiest miniature kits I've built in a while. The instructions were clear from start to finish, and I completed the entire project in less than 3 hours.

The kit uses a tab-and-slot assembly system, so very little glue is needed. Most pieces simply push together and lock into place.

Check out Cutebee website where you can purchase this DIY kit.
I have a discount code for you to use off 10% off: EVERYTHINGVERYSMALL

The fit was excellent throughout the build, although some parts required a bit of finger strength to push fully into position. Builders with arthritis or delicate skin may find this slightly challenging.

The materials were also very good quality. The wooden pieces were sturdy, the laser cutting was clean, and everything fitted together accurately.

A pole full of fish in front :-)

CUTEBEE includes a few spare pieces and a dust cover, which is always a nice bonus.

The lighting is surprisingly effective. Although the kit only includes two LED lights, the light is spread evenly throughout the entire scene, making all the details easy to see.

I also loved how well the kit captures the atmosphere of a small Japanese street-side restaurant. The lanterns, food displays, and overall layout give it plenty of character despite its compact size.

Choshi no Shitamachi is a fantastic choice if you're looking for a quick, beginner-friendly project that still looks impressive when finished. It captures the Japanese izakaya atmosphere beautifully, is easy to assemble, and offers excellent value for money.

When I first saw the Whispering Hollow miniature house kit by Anavrin, my first thought was simple:

"Wow."

My second thought was:

"Wow... that's expensive." Is it worth the price?

This is definitely not one of the cheaper DIY miniature kits on the market. But after seeing the finished design, I couldn't stop looking at it.

After spending around 8 to 10 hours building it, I can honestly say that this is one of the most unique miniature kits I have assembled so far.

Is it perfect? No.

Is it different from almost everything else available in the DIY miniature world? Absolutely.

Here's my experience building the Whispering Hollow miniature house kit.

Check out this book nook by Anavrin in their store here.

Whispering Hollow is a fantasy-themed miniature house kit designed by Anavrin.

The finished scene features several tiny hillside homes connected by stairways, bridges, lanterns, trees, waterfalls, and an incredible amount of greenery. The entire village appears to be built into a hillside surrounded by nature.

The first thing it reminded me of was the Shire from the Lord of the Rings films. While it isn't officially connected to the movies, the atmosphere feels very similar.

I've built many miniature kits over the years, including book nooks, room boxes, and traditional dollhouses, but I honestly haven't seen anything quite like this before.

The combination of the waterfall, the layered houses, the lighting effects, and the hidden details gives it a completely different look from most miniature kits.

The kit comes with pre-cut wooden pieces, lighting components, decorative accessories, printed details, greenery materials, transparent dust covers, tweezers and a screwdriver, and assembly instructions.

Everything needed for the build is included except the batteries and the glue. As always, I advise using grab-fast tacky glue.

Overall, I found this kit enjoyable to build, although its scale is a lot smaller than usual. My best guess is that it feels much smaller than 1:22 or 1:24, closer to a quarter-scale fantasy village, around 1:48 scale.

The estimated build time is around 8 to 10 hours, which felt about right in my case.

I wouldn't describe it as particularly difficult, but there were sections that required more attention than the rest.

1 The Tree Assembly Needs Careful Attention

The main challenge for me was the large tree structure along the side of the build.

Several parts need to connect in very specific locations. If even one section is slightly out of place, it becomes difficult to click everything together properly later.

The hollow tree, glued together in layers

Unfortunately, I discovered that a little too late.

In my case, I ended up gluing one section into place instead of clicking it nicely to the base because I hadn't assembled it exactly as intended. The good news is that you can't see the difference in the finished model.

One of the things that makes Whispering Hollow look so impressive is the amount of greenery covering the roofs, pathways, and landscape.

It also turned out to be one of the more time-consuming parts of the build.

The method that worked best for me was applying a very thin layer of glue with a brush and then carefully adding the greenery on top.

A fine brush gives much better control than applying glue directly from the bottle.

One thing I kept asking myself while building was: why did they include so many interior details inside the little houses?

There are tiny furnishings, decorations, and details hidden throughout the village.

The funny thing is that once everything is assembled, you can barely see some of them.

Just the little chairs, really.

Part of me wishes those details were easier to admire in the finished model.

The waterfall immediately draws attention, but the real magic comes from how all the elements work together.

The tiny houses, the layered pathways, the greenery, the warm lighting, and the fantasy-inspired design all combine into a miniature scene that feels alive.

I also really liked the decorative book-style background panels and the parchment-style artwork behind the village.

The included dust covers , which can easily be removed, are another nice touch that results in this premium price.

Okay, let’s be honest for a second. Miniatures are cute. That’s usually what draws you in at first. A tiny chair, a perfectly made little bed, or a miniature mug that’s smaller than your fingernail: it’s hard not to smile at that.

But if you’ve been in this hobby for a while, you already know that’s not the real reason you stay.

It Starts Simple… And Then It Changes

I didn’t start making miniatures because I thought it would help my mental health. I started because I saw something small and detailed and thought, I want to try that.

There was no deeper meaning behind it at the time, just curiosity and the idea that it looked like something I could enjoy.

So I started subscribing to dollhouse magazines, and at the time, there was 'dollhouse TV' online, with my first larger project as a result: this backyard shed. And all the accessories, even the ugly chickens - lol.

Somewhere along the way, though, it became something else.

I didn’t notice it immediately. It crept in slowly, almost without me realizing it.

Why Meditation Never Really Worked for Me

I’ve actually tried meditation before. More than once, to calm my mind.

Because I’m an overthinker. My mind doesn’t just sit still. It jumps from one thought to the next, replays conversations, questions things I said days ago, and if I’m being honest, spends way too much time worrying about what other people think.

From my first fairy house ever that I made, to my treehouse, and more, even my own partner or family was like: 'Why'? (I'm sorry if that happened to you as well in your own circle)

And then there’s social media.

Scrolling, comparing, reading things I probably shouldn’t, letting it get into my head more than I’d like to admit. It’s like giving your brain a constant stream of noise and then expecting it to suddenly go quiet when you ask it to.

So when people say, “Just sit still and clear your mind,” I always found that… frustrating. Because I couldn’t.

And then there was this one evening.

I was sitting at my table, working on a tiny piece that didn’t quite fit yet. I kept adjusting it, trimming it down bit by bit, completely focused on getting it right.

Especially when I was working out the measurements of my itty-bitty cat scratching post for my bashed DIY kit from Rolife:

But without really noticing when it happened, everything else in my head went quiet.

No overthinking. No replaying conversations. No worrying about what someone might have meant by something they said.

This is the closest thing to meditation I’ve ever experienced that actually works for me.

Because I’m not trying to quiet my mind. I’m giving it something so specific, so detailed, that it doesn’t have room to wander.

Of course, I also truly hope you’ll take a moment to check out my Etsy store. Supporting my shop helps me continue making more things to share, both free and premium.

This printable set includes mini cereal box designs – think classic Corn Flakes, Puffed Rice, Muesli, and a few other favorites – all shrunken down to 1:12 scale. They look just like the real thing, only much smaller!

How to use in your dollhouse: After assembling, you can place these mini cereal boxes on your dollhouse kitchen counter or tuck them into a pantry shelf.

You could even line them up in a miniature grocery store or market stall. Because they’re hollow once assembled, you can add a bit of crumpled paper inside to give them weight, so they won’t tip over easily during play or display.

Printing Instructions: I recommend printing the cereal boxes on cardstock or photo paper (for sturdiness and bright color).

Print at 100% scale on A4 or Letter size – the templates are already scaled for 1:12. Once printed, carefully cut out each outline, fold along the lines, and glue the tabs to form your mini boxes.

This is a miniature wall calendar featuring all 12 months with a lovely floral theme. Each month’s page has its own pretty flower artwork and a tiny calendar grid. It’s versatile enough for any time of year.

How to use in your dollhouse: Hang the mini calendar in a dollhouse kitchen, office, or bedroom – anywhere you’d have a calendar in real life.

For a fun detail, try actually “turning” the pages each month in your display (the pages are separate in the printable so you can stack them). Use a tiny brad or a little ribbon to hold the pages together at the top.

Printing Instructions: Print on regular white paper – this makes it easier to fold or flip the pages. The file is already sized for 1:12 scale, so print at 100%.

Once printed, cut out the pages (a precision craft knife helps for neat edges). A small piece of thread or a miniature sticky hook can serve as a hanger on your dollhouse wall.

Printing Instructions: For best results, print the book covers on normal printer paper at 100% scale. Regular paper is easier to fold tightly around your faux book blocks.

The covers are sized for 1:12 scale. Once printed, cut them out carefully. Use a glue stick to attach the cover around your chosen “pages” (wood or card). If you want the books to open, you can fold some blank paper inside and attach the cover around it.

How to use in your dollhouse: These mini books are perfect for a dollhouse nursery or children’s bedroom scene. You can place a couple of storybooks on a tiny bedside table or an open toy box.

Cut them out with sharp scissors. You can glue each cover around a little piece of foam or balsa wood, like the previous printables.

Here’s a fun one: miniature coloring books with holiday themes! This printable offers a few tiny coloring book covers and pages. I’ve included a Cozy Autumn-themed coloring book (with pumpkins and ghosts to color) and a Christmas one (with Santa, trees, and snowmen outlines), among others.

Each book has a cute cover and a handful of “inside” pages that are basically little black-and-white line drawings for coloring.

How to use in your dollhouse: These mini coloring books look right at home in a dollhouse playroom or classroom. You might set one on a tiny table with a couple of miniature crayons (you can make crayons by snipping the ends of toothpicks and coloring them with markers )

You can leave some pages “open” to a particular picture to look like it’s mid-coloring.

Printing Instructions: For these, use cardstock paper and print at 100% scale. The pages are tiny, so choose a fine print quality. After printing, cut out the covers and the little interior pages.

Stack the pages and place the cover around them. You can secure them by just dabbing a bit of glue along the spine to bind it.

One tip: scoring the cover lightly with a blade before folding helps it fold cleanly. These books are roughly 1 inch or less tall, to fit perfectly in 1:12 scale scenes.

What’s a dollhouse Christmas without presents under the tree? This free set provides miniature wrapping paper sheets in festive patterns and matching tiny gift tags.

The wrapping paper designs are scaled down so that when you wrap a 1:12 scale box, and the gift tags are itty-bitty, but they really complete the look of a wrapped present.

How to use in your dollhouse: Use the printed wrapping paper to wrap small beads or wooden blocks to create mini Christmas presents. The tiny gift tags can be glued onto the presents or tied on with a sliver of thread.

In a scene, you might also leave a roll of “leftover” wrapping paper on a mini table, as if your dollhouse family has been busy wrapping gifts.

Printing Instructions: For the wrapping paper, print on regular paper – this makes it easy to fold and wrap around small objects. Cut out the paper sheets with scissors or a craft knife.

For the gift tags, I suggest using cardstock so they are a bit sturdier. A hole punch can be used (if you have a tiny one) to make a hole in the tag, and then thread a bit of sewing thread through to tie it onto a package.

This set features miniature Easter cards. The designs include bunnies, chicks, Easter eggs, spring flowers and cheerful “Happy Easter” messages, all scaled down for your dollhouse friends. Each card is a one-page design that you fold in half.

Another idea: if you have a dollhouse front porch or mailbox, have an Easter card sticking out of the mail slot to show holiday greetings being delivered.

Your dollhouse couples and friends can now exchange valentines! This printable set includes mini Valentine’s Day cards in a few different styles. Each one folds in half like a real greeting card. They’re perfect for adding a romantic or friendship touch to your February 14th dollhouse scenes.

I recently got the Elsa’s Tailoring miniature kit from Robotime, and yes, they kindly sent it to me for free ( I never thought I would become an "influencer" hahahaha). That being said, this review is completely my own.

Disclaimer: I’m not paid to write about it, nor to take photos or make videos. As always, I just share my honest experience of putting the kit together: what went smoothly, what didn’t, and whether I’d recommend it to you.

In general, Elsa’s Tailoring turned out to be one of the easier and fastest Robotime kits I’ve built.

I really enjoyed the design: it feels like a corner shop that could easily exist in real life. For now, it’s staying on my shelf, but I can picture it fitting perfectly in a sewing classroom.

Elsa's sewing machine

The assembly is straightforward: just follow the manual step by step.

Most of the wooden pieces slot together with the familiar tab-and-glue system.

Walls, windows, floors, picture frames, and all furniture are clicked together like a good-fitting glove.

A few areas need extra reinforcement, so I stuck with my trusty Grab Fast Tacky Glue instead of the included glue strips (those strips felt too fiddly for me).

glue strips included in the kit

Ribbons & Fabric Rolls

One of the most charming little details is the ribbon stand. That said, it did take some fiddling. The rolls didn’t want to stay perfectly round on their own, so I glued them carefully and clamped them until they dried into shape.

Once done, they look great: it adds a lot of character to the shop interior.

LED Light & Battery Box

The LED light was surprisingly simple. All the wiring was premade, so it was just a matter of attaching it in the right spots.

However, the battery box at the back is a bit of a letdown. It sits loose, doesn’t look very nice from behind, and tends to move around when you try to flip the switch (see photo). Not a dealbreaker, but it could have been designed a little neater.

The Mannequin (Dress Form)

Ah, the tricky part: the dress form (or mannequin). I think my husband heard me swearing a few times.

The skirt fabric went on easily enough, but the top of the dress gave me trouble.

There wasn’t a ready-made pattern for the bust, so I had to improvise: first, glue a piece of fabric around the shape, then cut it to size to make the top.

A couple of small things made me smile while building:

- The tiny printed fabrics and ribbons give the whole kit a very cozy, authentic feel.

- The mirror looks incredibly realistic: so realistic that my own hand kept photobombing my video footage whenever I filmed in front of it - lol!

See the dress mirrored from behind

- I also noticed that Rolife sneaked their name onto some of the accessories—like on little boxes and cards. It’s a playful touch that makes the set feel like a branded shop.

- The hat and the little perfume bottles were also very cute and a reminder I need to create a little workshop on how to make these bottles from scraps :-)

Building Elsa’s Tailoring was a really enjoyable project. It’s on the easier side compared to some other Robotime kits, but that doesn’t mean it’s boring—quite the opposite.

The little ribbons, fabrics, and jewelry details make it feel like a real sewing corner, and I love how cozy the whole shop looks once finished.

I wish you happy crafting!

I am a dollhouse miniature artisan from Florida. For over 15 years, I sold my handcrafted dollhouse miniatures through the largest online retailer of dollhouse miniatures. I create handcrafted dollhouse miniatures that are holiday themed. Right now, I am selling at shows and to fellow local miniaturist. Some of my miniatures include, decorated holiday trees, wreaths, holiday shopping bags and holiday cabinets. I also created some miniature scenes in small music boxes and book boxes. If you are interested in purchasing any of my miniatures, you can email me at kimberlystowell@comcast.net

If you need a specific mini, the odds are that I have it.

Mornin' I'm Murph (real name Roy) I'm a retired Paramedic and live in a little town called Cobh (pronounced Cove) on the south coast of Ireland, I live with she that shall be obeyed right on the seafront overlooking the entrance to Cork harbour, huge Ships and cruise liners pass by our front window every day.

I started off with 1/48 buildings like Rolfe, Cutebee Etc, then after a major blunder I orders a load of extras only to find on delivery they were 1/12 scale !! 😱 So instead of returning them I decided to do a 1/12 scale shop, a large corner store like Arkwright's on the TV series Open All Hours, I ordered two of these <a title="Shop" href=" removed link " target="_blank" rel="noopener"> removed link <a href=" removed link ">T'm planning to put the 2 fronts at right angles then finish it into an L shape, I'm planning to put a Butchers department in the other one along with a small Bakery they should be arriving soon. Looking forward to meeting everybody, Sláinte Murph
