This build is the Kowloon Walled City 2049 Book Nook Kit, a futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired take on the historic Kowloon Walled City.
Instead of recreating it as it once was, this kit imagines what it might look like decades into the future: dense, vertical, neon-lit, and full of atmosphere. It’s very different from the more traditional or historical book nooks, and that’s exactly what made me curious to assemble it.
I received this book nook kit from Anavrin, but just to be clear from the start: all opinions in this review are my own.

I filmed a full unboxing video, which you can watch here if you want to see everything in detail:
Inside the box, you’ll find pre-cut and pre-colored wooden pieces, acrylic elements, printed details, LED light components, wiring, and the instruction booklet.
Everything came neatly packed and protected, and nothing felt loose or damaged when I opened it.
What’s not included is glue and batteries. You’ll need your own craft glue and batteries for the lighting. I prefer Grab Fast Tacky glue.

Aleene’s 33141 Fast Grab Tacky Always Ready Adhesives, 4 oz.

First Impressions when starting this Anavrin Kit
My first impression was very positive. The design feels modern and well thought out, and the overall look is sturdy rather than flimsy.
Two details really stood out to me right away. The first is the TV screen element, which shows two different images depending on the angle you look at it from.

It’s a small feature, but it adds a lot of character once the build is finished.

The second is the lighting: there are multiple colored LED lights, and one of the signs even changes colors, which gives the whole scene a lot of depth.
Everything looked clean, precise, and solid, and nothing gave me the impression that it would be fragile once assembled.

Build Process

This was a very easy and quick build. I finished the entire kit in under four hours, which is fast for a book nook with this level of detail.
As you can see in the picture below, the assembled level is 3 stars, and that sure does feel correct!

The instructions were clear, and the pieces fit together well. I didn’t run into alignment issues or confusing steps, and the overall flow of the build felt logical.

Most of the build went smoothly. Only near the end did I encounter a few issues with the lighting ==>
- Instead of gluing the on/off button in place, I decided to attach it using double-sided tape, which worked better for me to turn the light switch on and off and still keeps it secure.
It was probably a connecting- problem somewhere, but I couldn’t find where.

- Unfortunately, one of the red neon signs with Chinese text doesn’t seem to work. I checked the connections, but I couldn’t get that specific light to turn on. That was a little bummer, but probably my own mistake.

Aside from that, I had no other problems. I genuinely enjoyed assembling this kit, and it’s very satisfying to see all the details come together.

As with every kit, some pros and cons to consider:
Pros
- Modern, cyberpunk-style design that feels different from most book nooks
- Very quick build time for the level of detail
- Clever details like the angle-changing TV screen
- Multiple colored LED lights add depth and atmosphere
- Pieces feel sturdy and well-made
- Enjoyable and stress-free build process
Cons
- Glue and batteries are not included
- Minor lighting issues at the end of the build (could be my end or just bad luck with that particular kit)
- On the expensive side of brands
Final Thoughts
Overall, this was a very enjoyable kit to build. Despite the minor lighting issue I ran into, I’d still consider this a solid and well-designed book nook.
If you like modern scenes, neon lights, and futuristic city vibes, this one is definitely worth considering!

Hi everyone!
My name is Lizzy, and I am an amateur miniaturist obsessed with everything in the dollhouse and miniature world, ever since I was a teenager.
So far, I have created 2 dollhouse projects, a backyard shed and a miniature treehouse, tons of DIY dollhouse kits, and “hacked” some.
I also created a fairy garden, and lots of small and simple miniature projects on my YouTube channel. (mostly made from trash or everyday items).
I love to write as well about all things happening in the miniature world, hence the reason why I created this blog!
I wish you happy reading and crafting!
